France, officially the French Republic, is a country in Western Europe. It has a population of about 67 million people and the official language is French. Travelers from the European Union and Shengen area don't need a visa to visit France. Travelers from other countries need to apply for a Shengen Visa and can stay in France for 90 days.

The currency in France is the Euro (EUR). Traveling in France can be quite expensive. Count on a daily budget of $10 - $20.

Hitchhiking in France is very easy with an average waiting time of 10 minutes! Although most French people can understand English, we would recommend you to learn the basics of the French language. Wild camping isn't really allowed in France but if you camp in a place that isn't visible from the road, you'll be fine. If you can't find an isolated spot, just pitch your tent after sunset and pack up again early in the morning, preferably at sunrise.

Our highlight in France was meeting old friends and making new ones!
