Greece, officially the Hellenic Republic, is a country in Southeast Europe. It has a population of about 11 million people and the official language is Greek. Travelers from the European Union and Shengen area  or who are a citizen of one of the countries on this list don't need a visa to visit Greece. Travelers who hold a valid, multiple entry Shengen Visa can enter Greece for 90 days. Citizens from countries that are on this list need to apply for a Greek visa.

The currency in Greece is the Euro (EUR). Touristic places can be quite expensive if you travel on a tight budget. Count on a daily budget of $15.

Hitchhiking in Greece is overall good if you are patient. Our average waiting time was about 30 minutes - 1 hour. We could most of the time communicate in English with the local people. Wild camping is not always possible. Some areas are fenced to protect the high population of brown bears from crossing the road and to prevent happy wanderers like us from camping and ending up as dinner for those big buddies. Inform yourself well before you go into the wild.

Our highlight was discovering Meteora with our legendary friend Hercules.
