Kazakhstan is a Central Asian country and it used to be part of the former Soviet Republic. It's the world's ninth biggest country by size and it's more than twice the size of the other Central Asian countries combined.
We entered Kazakhstan on the 11th of September 2017 by crossing the Caspian Sea by cargo ship. We started our journey in the west of the country by going for a 3000 km long road trip through its endless deserts and steppes.
Once we started approaching the Southeastern part of Kazakhstan, it was a welcome change to see the dry and flat steppes make way for green and hilly landscapes. Most travelers come to this area as it's a popular destination for hikes and visits to a few significant historical sites such as Turkestan.
